Cordelia SEARLES

Father: David SEARLES
Mother: Ruth CARTER

Cordelia Searles was born in Carthage in 1830.  She married Joseph Howland (probably the son of Joseph Howland of Temple) in Weld on 27 March 1845 at the age of fourteen.  In 1850 they are listed as living in Temple, Franklin, Maine with their first son, Isaac.  Some time before 1860, the couple settled in Perkins Plantation and remained there until after 1880.  During that time, Cordelia produced eleven children.  In 1900 the couple is listed as living in Wilton.  Joseph died in 1907.  Cordelia died in 1911, surviving her husband by four years.  They are both buried in Intervale Cemetery near the Searles clan.

James P. SEARLES

James Searles was born in Wilton.  He married Anginette Adams, daughter of George Adams in Dallas Plantation, near Rangely and then settled in that area.  He and his family are listed in Dallas Plantation in 1870.  By 1900, the family was living in Rangely.  On all enumerations, he is listed as a farmer.  He died of Bright’s disease in Freeman in 1916 (listed as a resident there for 6 months prior to his death—probably at the home of one of his children) and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery, Dallas Plantation, Franklin, Maine.

Theodosia SEARLES

Theodosia Searles is listed in the 1860 Federal Census as having been born in Cathage, Franklin, Maine.  She married Nathan Kimball Chase in 1862.  Apparently this couple had only one child as no other children are found on the Federal Census for any year.  The family is found in Perkins Plantation in 1880.  In 1890, there is a Nathan K. Chase listed in East Livermore and it might be surmised the family moved there.  Theodosia died 25 January 1923.

David Clark SEARLES

David Clark Searles was born in Wilton in about 1847.  He married Nancy A. Welch the daughter of his step-father, Jacob Welch and they are enumerated as living with his mother and step-father, with their 3 month old daughter, Maud, in Perkins Plantation in 1870.  His profession in that year was listed as farm laborer.  By 1880, he was living in Jay and working as a blacksmith.  He apparently tired of that profession as in 1900 he is listed as a Stone Mason.  At that time he and his wife are listed as living in East Livermore.  His wife died before 1920 as he is listed as living in Livermore Falls, Androscoggin, Maine with his daughter, Maud S. Rich.  He is listed on that census as being a landlord.  He died some time between 1920 and 1930.  It is not known where he and his wife are buried.
