Jacob Grogg began his working life as a miller in Rufner Mills, Stark County, Ohio at the age of 21. In November of 1837 he was married to Sarah Becker/Becher in Stark County. In 1840 he took charge of Roop Mills at Pekin for a year and then for the following ten managed the Hostetter and Roop Mills. Then in 1851, he followed his two brothers, Peter and Daniel, to Dekalb County, Indiana. He purchased and in Keyser and his family followed him in 1852. He cleared and farmed this land until 1869 when he moved to Auburn, Dekalb County. Though he retired from farming, he kept ownership of the land. He and his wife were members of the Lutheran church. He died 09 November 1891 and his wife followed him on 23 December 1893. They are buied at Evergreen Cemetery, Auburn, DeKalb, Indiana.
