Henry received the home farm, paying £12 per acre to the other heirs. he was also responsible for the care of his mother, but he received £125 additional to his share "for services render to him by me." Henry and Elizabeth purchased the remainder of the home farm from Mathias in 1818 and in turn, sold it to Christian III in 1827.
In 1836 Henry and Elizabeth purchased land in North Middleton twp, Cumberland Co. PA. Cheap land in Ohio was attracting many people at this time , and in 1844, Henry's son, Simon, rode out on horseback to see for himself. he liked what he saw, for the following year, henry and his sons, Simon and David, with their families moved to Richland Co, Ohio, selling their land in Pennsylvania. David settled there, but the next year, Henry and Simon moved on to Crawford Co. Within the next ten years, two more sons, a daughter, and Christian III, the nephew he helped raise, all followed him to that same area of Liberty twp, Crawford Co.
