David Oliver was a farmer and bought the farm lying to the east of his father's farm.

At his death an autopsy was preformed, at which his brother Willis, a medical doctor was present. The liver was diseased and at that time the trouble could not be diagnosed. Willis later recognised that condition as the result of cancer.
