David SEARLES

David Searles is listed in town records as being born in Wilton, Maine (then Oxford County) in 1801.  He married Ruth Carter 02 December 1824.  Their son, James Searles b. abt 1839 is listed as being born in Mendon, Vermont on the 1860 census.  The same holds true for her daughter Susanna, so it must be concluded that the family lived for a time in Mendon.  There is a David Searles listed in the 1840 Census of Mendon, Rutland County, VT.  On the same page is a Jacob Welch, Jr. and the children of Ruth’s sister, Eunice are all listed as having been born in Vermont.  So it must be concluded that they made the trip with the Welch family.   By 1845 they had returned to Maine as their daughter, Theodosia, was born in Carthage.  They probably settled in Perkins Plantation among the Carter’s as Ruth is listed there with her children in 1850.  In 1849 David Searles died leaving a wife and seven children behind.  He is buried in Intervale Cemetery in Wilton, Franklin County, Maine with his wife, parents and several siblings.
