James HARROP

Little is known of James Harrop. It is said he was from Ashton in Lancashire, England. He was born 12 March 1811 in Lancashire. According to Hopley, He worked as a weaver in his native country. He and his wife, Ann (b. 1809, England), emmigrated in 1863, following their son, Hugh, and leaving their 11 other grown children behind in England. The names of these children have not been discovered. They settled in Crestline, Crawford County, Ohio. In Ohio, he took up the new trade of a Machinist in the Pennsylvania Railroad shops with his son, and worked at this profession until he retired. James and Ann Harrop are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Crestine. Ann died in 1872, and James survived his wife until 6 November 1876.
