Lydia and Wes Knappenberger were farmers on the Ridgeton-Annapolis Road. On retiring to Bucyrus Wes occupied his time by working at Norton's Greenhouse. Their daughter, Althea, had married a West Virginian, brother of a former politician. At her untimely death of quinsy, Wes and Lydia cared for her son, John Homer, seeing him through dental college.
