Samuel SEARLES
Samuel Searles was born in Boston, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Spellings of his name include Serll (marriage record) and Searle. His parents removed to Barbados within a year of his birth. It is not known if he accompanied them to the island, though it must be assumed that he did. There is conjecture that he later lived with his uncle Jonathan Tyng in Dunstable. True or not, he was living in Dunstable before 1699 when he married Sarah Perham (see Perham family). He is recorded as being one of the foremost men of the town and actively involved in land speculation. He is noted for having contributed money to the building of the “Great Bridge” over the Concord River in Billerica in 1689. It is assumed he was working with money inherited from his father’s Barbados estate. He is also recorded in his grandfather Tyng’s will as having inherited 100 pounds in 1681. He died before 1738 as his wife is listed as the Widow Sarah Searles on the tax list of Dunstable, Middlesex, Massachusetts in that year.
Father: Daniel SEARLE
