Father: Leonard CRUMFor a few years Frederick farmed on part of his father's farm, then he purchased a nearby farm. In 1857 he sold his farm, and with his wife and six children from the age of 2 to 12, he set out by wagon for Ohio. He purchased 160 acres with a log house in which the last two of their children were born, near the village of tiffin, Hopewell twp, Seneca Co. Frederick was a man of great character, personal charm, and a good business man, investing in farm land near where he lived. This land was then parceled out to his sons as they married, who would purchase the land from him later. A comprehensive history of Frederick and descendants up to about 1970, the source of this material, has been written by a grandson and great-grandson.
