Givré
American Saddlebred Gelding
Born May 29, 1998 ASHA #107301
Givré was purchased from
Crosswinds
Stables of Corry, PA and arrived where I was
living in New York on March 8, 1999.
His name is French, meaning "Frosted" or "Frosty."
It is pronounced with a soft G and short I: ji-vray. I think this is
particularly descriptive of his eyes, which are partially blue.
Jeepers is my "evergreen" horse. I've
been trying to get him trained now since he was three. HA!
Life has a funny way of making other plans. So far all
we've managed to do is cover the basics of walk, trot, canter
and go for a few jaunts down the road. Kind of
embarrassing actually.
He is
affectionately known as "Pooper," a name he acquired shortly after I
purchased him. It was better than calling him "the little sh*t-head."
Since I met him he's always been extremely active. As a baby, he
would drive other horses (and me) nuts with his antics (I
really don't think the goat appreciated being picked up by the ear).
Though he's matured quite a bit he's still an absolute goof ball with a
very wired sense of fun.
Jeep
was purchased as a stallion but I made the decision to geld him as a
two-year-old. It wasn't a temperament issue; it was just easier on
my life. It was not a total loss, however, as I pasture bred
him to Chloe before he was cut.
Tempi was the result. Not a bad
deal.
Jeep has really been a great Dad. He
was joined with mother and daughter when Tempi was a month old.
Chloe, being older, left the baby to be entertained by her fun-loving
father. They still play together and Tempi has a close
relationship with both her parents.
I'm hoping
this year we will really get rolling because he is a very talented horse
who loves to train. Working really focuses his busy mind and gets
him the attention he craves. I can tell you, we'll be doing a lot
of trail riding. First of all because I don't have a ring, and
second because he loves it. He always wants to see what's around
the next corner. The plan is to do dressage type
training on the local dirt roads. We'll see how that goes.
